Green meadows on station roofs
The construction of the green stations is based on a modular concept developed by our architects at DB Station&Service AG. It has a number of cornerstones. Renewable energy is obtained from geothermal, solar thermal or photovoltaic systems. Green roofs improve thermal insulation and collect rainwater. And we use materials made from sustainable resources from the local region in these stations.
Scope
Green Railway Stations rating system is designed primarily for existing Indian railway stations. The stations under major redevelopment can also apply for Green Railway Stations rating.
The steps involved as part of Green Railway Station rating:
- Training for the Railway Station operation and Maintenance personnel on ‘Green Railway Station’.
- Performance improvement study including detailed study on opportunities for:
- Reducing energy & water consumption
- Increasing renewable energy
- Effective waste management
- Enhancing passenger amenities, etc.
- Guidance on implementation of green measures.
- Facilitation of assessment by Third Party independent experts
- Award of ‘Green Railway Station Rating’
Railway stations to go green, star-rating system being developed by ISBC
Now Railway Stations in India will go green. In the next six months, the Indian Sustainable Building Council (ISBC) will be coming up with a star-rating system for 400 railway stations that have been identified to be redeveloped by the Modi-government.
“We are working with the Ministry of Railways to develop special rating system for 400 stations. This will ensure that these stations go green,” Dr P C Jain, chairman of ISBC, said here on Monday.
